Virtual Tour: My Personal Workspace

The last room on the virtual tour is My Personal Workspace.  This is where I've set up my drafting table and loom, and have intentionally left a wall blank (to my back) for shooting photographs of art.  This room provides the largest area for me to display my plein air works, which are hung in no particular order throughout.  Visitors to 2ndStory Space are welcome to come in and peruse the paintings, but no events will be scheduled here.

Virtual Tour: The Bathroom

The last stop on our virtual tour is:

The Bathroom

Bathrooms are always full of secrets and intimate, raw life experiences.  So what better place to display my Princesses and feminist commentary?!  Barbie has even taken over the bathtub to ensure no one lingers too long.  And, for those who over-pry, there are more secrets hidden in the medicine cabinet.

Virtual Tour: The Kitchen

Our next stop is:

The Kitchen

Pretty nondescript... there's a utility sink, mini-fridge, microwave and hot plate for tea.  But the juiciest conversations almost always happen in the kitchen, so I've displayed some of my more provocative artworks here.

Virtual Tour: The Library

The other end of The Living Room opens into:

The Library

I invite you to peruse any of my collection of art books, which spans numerous individual artists, media, time periods, exhibitions, themes and styles.  I am also honored to exhibit my mother's first oil painting, a waterfall landscape older than myself.

Virtual Tour: The Living Room

The next stop on our virtual tour is:

The Living Room

This is a fun place to curl up in a cozy chair and watch a documentary about art or have a super-exclusive film screening.  The television is also viewable from The Meeting Room so that discussion can ensue while watching.  And Claude, everyone's favorite lovable 6-foot tall plush Bigfoot, has made himself right at home!

Virtual Tour: The Meeting Room

Let's go on a virtual tour of 2ndStory Space together!

In these next few posts I will lead you on a virtual walkthrough of the studio.  The entire space is a large-scale installation unto itself, with my art integrated throughout.  Enjoy!

After entering on the street and coming upstairs, you enter:

The Meeting Room

This room is designed as a discussion, critique, socializing and work space, complete with table & chairs, corkboard, calendar, whiteboard & easels for presenting art or other discourse.  The dining room table belonged to my father's aunt and has been in the family through several generations.

This room also contains information about 2ndStory Space and houses the Supply Swap, where artists can leave materials that they don't need and/or take things they will use.  (Please note: there is limited space in the Supply Swap area and I may not be able to accept everything you don't need, so check with me first.  And any items left for a prolonged period may be donated to thrift to make space for new treasures.)

Open House Day 2

Informal Friends & Family Open House - Day 2

Another hearty thank-you to everyone who came out for my open house today, despite the lack of power in the front room.  (Chuck & I did eventually figure out which fuse had gone and replaced it.)  Hopefully next time, we'll be more climate controlled.

Today was lovely.  All in all, I had a wonderful weekend.  I reconnected with some very close friends who are very dear to me, and got to meet & better know several others.  Thank you all so very much for making my open house special.  I thoroughly enjoyed conversing, learning more about what you've been doing, sharing art books and sharing my space.  I will even call some of you out by name & action.  If I miss mentioning you, please know that you are still very dear to my heart and I am glad you were able to drop by.  You are all welcome anytime.

Mom, Lex, Linda & Verb - thank you all for always being so quick to help out with whatever and I am honored to call you my family.  Dad, this goes out to you too - I know you would have come if only you could do so and that Lex will share her experiences; I am hoping to post more online so you can share in 2ndStory as well.  And Mom, thank you again for everything and for letting me borrow your crock pot for the mulled cider.

David, thank you for the Cranky Yellow shrine and for your continued support; I am so glad you have yet more of my art now as well.  You are totally welcome to do a performance or event and we must collaborate on something again soon!

Aunia & Russ, thank you for engaging in everything in the space, and for sharing the idea that you'd "walked into my brain" - it really made my day.  And I'm so honored to have some of my jewelry included in your holiday show.

Cathy, I am glad you came by and thank you for the violet.  What a sweet gift!  I am glad that Aunia & I could share Frida Kahlo with you.  Barb, thank you for picking up my Tricycle painting and enjoy!  And Jan, it was good seeing you & Terri and I'm glad your foot is doing better.

Andrew & Kathleen, thank you for your continued following of my unique artistic vision, and for the studio-warming gifts with the pointed display stand and non-hole punch.  I look forward to seeing you both in St. Charles.  And Andrew, there's another Mexican Coca Cola in the fridge for you next time you drop by.

Ginny thank you for always being so warm & jovial and for knowing how to have a good laugh.  Maxine, it was a pleasure meeting you and enjoy the necklace.

Susan & Peter, thank you both for your continued support.  You have followed me through so many art shows and series of works, and you are always quick to embark on whatever journey I'm traveling at the time.  I am truly honored to be so well-represented in your art collection.

Kacey, you totally rocked out that pink mustache!

Jeff, thank you for stopping in and for the impromptu whiteboard shoot.  Let me know how the "spy cam" photo turns out.

And, above all, Ben, thank you for the warm welcome and for making all of this possible.  I am so very thrilled to be there.

I will be posting a virtual tour of the space over the course of this week so come back and check out the fun pictures!

Open House Day 1

Informal Friends & Family Open House - Day 1

A hearty thank-you to everyone who came out for my open house today.  I had a wonderful time chatting with all of you and sharing mulled cider.  Unfortunately I lost power to the front room around 5:30 PM, but at least it didn't happen until near the end of the event.

Although I will likely be without power to the front room until Monday, the open house will continue tomorrow.  It should be sunny so there will be ample light throughout much of the day, though if it slows down later on I may end the event slightly earlier at dusk since it does get pretty dark.

Tomorrow promises to be another fun time and I'm looking forward to celebrating my studio opening with those of you who couldn't attend today.  There will be more mulled cider, hot tea & pumpkin muffins, and more great conversations to be had I'm sure!
